Just had a read of the appo, and just wanted to point something out to potential applicants:
"bands are to e-mail wtp@rock.com with...One photo containing at least one member of the band in the shot.
"Due to limited places (30 bands), bands will be chosen based on the originality of their pictures. The most artistic, funny, raunchy or just plain ludicrous pictures will be selected."
Basically, your music doesn't mean much right now (there's no mention of sending a demo or auditioning), you just have to be a dab hand with Paint Shop Pro in order to enter. Bit harsh, this, isn't it?

Somewhere, the person in charge of Seraphic's publicity photos' head exploded. Relax Vin, you're a handsome fellow, and Justin is a prime piece of man candy. My Angel Empire should be a shoo in.

Yes, the photo thing is just a laugh. I've had 50 bands apply so far; need something to spice it up a bit.

HEAT A RESULTS Five great performances from five great bands. But unfortunately two of them had to go home empty handed and one of them have some more work to do.
With 16 points, Codego (pron. "Code Ego") from Halifax proceed to the Playoff at The Jockey on 20th April
With 17 points, 2nd Placed The Spills proceed directly to Tri-Final 3 at Snooty Fox on 28th April
And with 18 points, 1st Place Tres Macacos shoot straight into Tri-Final 1 on 21st April
It must be noted that 4th place The Picnic Solution had a massive 15 points so you can see that only one point seperated four of the bands. The judges had one heck of a tough round to kick off the competition.
Just a quick reminder, that if any band drops out in later stages of the competition, the band with the most points is called up to replace them. So we may not have seen the last of the Picnic Solution yet...

HEAT B RESULTSThanks to everyone who came down; t'was a most enjoyable evening Five fantastic bands were booked, but having a no-show from Santabarbara, only one band went home completely empty-handed last night. With 15 points, newly formed supergroup Hot Contents came in third place. They have a little more work to do as they proceed to the Playoff at The Jockey on 20th April With 17 points, 2nd Placed Marrizon proceed directly to Tri-Final 3 at Snooty Fox on 28th April And with a staggering 24 points, heat winners Sidewinder shoot straight into Tri-Final 1 on 21st April at The Jockey King Nothing missed out on 3rd place with a single point. Ouch...

HEAT C RESULTSAn incredibly difficult evening for the judges due to the varied nature of the acts that were on. Thankyou to everyone again for the fantastic turnout. Five fantastic acts performed last night, but two of them had to exit the competition at the first hurdle. With 17 points, 90spaces came in third place and so qualify for the Playoff at The Jockey on Friday 20th April. With 18 points, 2nd Placed solo artist Cry Girl Cry proceeds straight into Tri-Final 1 at The Jockey on Saturday 21st April. And with an amazing 22 points, heat winner Jason Wakefield stole the show and proceeds to Tri-Final 2 on Friday 27th April, again at The Jockey.

HEAT D RESULTS An intruiging mix of acts, due to three last minute pull-outs. But, in the end, an entertaining evening of varied music acts was pulled together.
In third place with 17 points are political psychadellic metallers Mercurial from Leeds. They proceed to the Playoff on 20th April.
In second place and progressing through to Tri-Final 1 on 21st April is heavy metal act Smile Poltergeist from Lincolnshire with 19 points.
Meanwhile, the winners on 20 points, go through to Tr-Final 2 on 27th April. They are grunge metal maestros Theory1.
Congratulations to all three bands who qualified and Commiserations to the two acts who did not. Thanks must go to both both Flying Monkey Fist from Manchester and Nobby & Chicane from Leeds who jumped in at the last minute to entertain the crowd.
Many thanks to everyone who gave up some of their Easter break to come to both heats this weekend. I will see you all on Friday 13th (ooooh, spooky!) at The Jockey for the Punk heat and at the Snooty Fox the following night for the Alternative heat.

HEAT E RESULTSScumface from Manchester decided to pull out at the last minute, much to the disappointment and annoyance to the fans. We were all looking forward to seeing Alan Sugar play bass! This led to only one of the four remaining bands going home empty-handed... In third place, funnily enough, were A Third Wish all the way from Halstead. They go through to the Playoff next Friday at The Jockey. And they got a mighty 21 points. 21 points for third place! Not bad for a bunch of Southerners For the first time in this competition we had a draw... the first and second placed bands each had 22 points (yep, just a point above third place). Both bands qualified automatically, so the judges were forced to vote off amongst each other to see which band had bragging rights for first place. Local lads Skiprat came in second place. You can catch them in Tri-final 2 on Saturday 27th April at The Jockey. The winners from Richmond and Leeds were My Older Ego. They go through to Tri-final 3 on Saturday 28th April at the Snooty Fox.

HEAT F RESULTSWow. That's the only way to describe this evening. Saving the best until last, this heat was truly amazing. All five bands played stunning sets and all firmly deserved to qualify for the next round. There was a tie between second and third place, fourth and fifth place only narrowly missing out in the process. And the night also had an unexpected twist at the end...
In third place on 15 points, qualifying for The Playoff at The Jockey on Friday 20th april are Leeds "Skiffle prog-rock pop" outfit Silverlode. Their album release gig is tomorrow night. Good luck to them with it!
In second place, coming in at three votes to two due to the tie in points were Doncaster alt rockers Make You Mine. They go through to Tri-final 2 at The Jockey on Friday 27th April.
Having their drummer quit on them a fortnight ago led to the two remaining members of Whisky Dogs going back to the drawing board for a plan. what they produced was a stunning twin acoustic guitar set that saw them finish as winners in this heat. This promotes them to Tri-final 3 on Saturday 28th April. But, as previously mentioned, there was a twist in this tale... Finishing in second place in Heat A were Indie band The Spills. They have decided to drop out of the competition due to double-booking themselves. Therefore the band finishing third from their heat ( Codego who, by finishing third, are currently in the playoffs) get elevated to second place, meaning they qualify for Tri-final 3 in place of The Spills. Now this obviously means that there is a spare place going in The Playoff at The Jockey on Friday 20th April... Following the competition rules, this means that one of the bands finishing fourth gets called up as a replacement. The band who gets called up is the one who has the most points. Now this would have been The Picnic Solution had they not split up. Which left three acts on 14 points who were eligible to be called up; King Nothing (Heat B), Nobby & Chicane (Heat D) and Goggle-eyed Psycho (Heat F). Having a quick vote amongst the judges saw that the majority of the panel wanted Goggle-eyed Psycho to remain in the competition, meaning that they snatch the last playoff position. With 12 points and finishing in fifth place, it should be noted that Inamba played an absolutely blinding set. They finished fifth but had more points than some other bands who finished fourth in other sets. Like I said, this heat was truly amazing and all five bands deserved to get through in all five judge's opinions. We saw a total of seventeen supremely talented individuals perform five truly teriffic displays. It is such as shame that someone had to go home empty handed. Just imagine what the following rounds are going to be like! THE PLAYOFF RESULTSWith Mercurial's bassist breaking his arm I began the process of searching from the wildcard call-up... in points order, King Nothing, Nobby & Chicane, Inamba, Glyn Bailey, and Overplay were all unable to play. By the time Overplay got back to me it was too late to ask any other band but I felt I had given it a fair shot to find a sixth band... So, the chances of a "second chance" to get through to the Tri-final went up by a sixth for all five remaining bands. And boy was it entertaining! In third place, which means they sneak into tomorrow's Tri-final at The Jockey (playing straight after their charity gig appearance at the Snooty Fox) were local grunge-miesters Goggle-eyed Psycho. Refusing to give up, the wildcard entrants playing due to The Spills dropping out have proven they want to win this competition just as much as anybody. They finished with 15 points. Second tonight were Wakefield electro-acoustic pop act 90spaces. Coming out of the starting blocks it was obvious these guys were determined to make an impression (they had their "official" bassist back this time) and finished with a great score of 21 points. This puts them in Tri-final 2 at The Jockey on Friday 27th April. Meanwhile the hastily assembled "supergroup" Hot Contents may have accidentally struck gold after a blinding performance straight from the bowels of hell! They stole the show with an amazing 23 points, shooting them into Tri-Final 3 back at the Snooty Fox on Saturday 28th April. A successful night for Wakefield music and one that is set to add to the amazing mix of bands in all three Tri-finals!

Smile Poltergeist have had to drop out of the battle of the bands after accidentally double-booking themselves. They have another gig that they cannot get out of and wish The Music Collective and all bands remaining in the competition the best of luck.
I shall endeavour to get them over this way again in the near future.
Which means that Tres Macacos get bumped into the final and, again by sheer flukiness, Goggle-eyed Psycho head into the Last Chance Saloon.
Tri-final 2 at The Jockey tonight, Tri-final 3 at the Snooty tomorrow. It is shaping-up very well indeed!
Kind regards
Wayne

TRI-FINAL 2 RESULTS Another no-show? I'm afraid so. 90Spaces blew their chances by deciding to go and see Justin Timberlake at Sheffield Hallam Arena instead of competing. Their loss. I just wish I'd found out earlier so I could have found a replacement band...
Runner-up of the evening with 20 points was pianist Jason Wakefield. This man is a genius and fans will be treated to a 50-minute set on Friday 4th May as he heads into the Last Chance Saloon along with Goggle-eyed Psycho.
The winners of Tri-final 2, joining Tres Macacos in the final, are Theory1. They finished on 21 points. Well done guys! See you on Saturday 5th May!

TRI-FINAL 3 RESULTSWow. Things are getting hot now! Some may say they are "hotter than hot" Five phenomonal performances by five amazing bands. The result was tighter than a duck's posterior and we had two bands tied for second place on 18 points... Coming in as runners-up with three votes to two amongst the judging panel were Hot Contents. The dream is not over yet! All the fans that have been picked-up along the way will have a whole 50-minute Hot Contents set on Friday 4th May as they head into the Last Chance Saloon with Goggle-eyed Psycho and Jason Wakefield. Winning Tri-final 3 with a huge 22 points were the drummerless Whiskey Dogs. Many people are wondering what the future holds for the current acoustic duo. Will they remain acoustic or are they still fully intending to recruit a drummer and switch back to an electric set? They've got this far in this competition as an acoustic set and now join Tres Macacos and Theory1 in the final. Which, if you didn't know by now, is held at the Snooty Fox on Saturday 5th May.
