so we decided to change our name. we were going to be called at amber, strikes, initiation, or something else. i can't remember. basically its because after the hurricane is shit, theres bands in sheff that are every fucking variation, after the.. before the... hurricane somthing and bollocks to them, so now we're called STRIKES cos it means everything and nothing. miners strikes, picket line strikes, hunger strikes, missile strikes, bowling shit, lightning strikes, matches strikes, you know the score. STRIKES. notice the lack of THE in the title of our band, innit. fuck YOU. WE'RE STRIKES AND WE WILL BREAK YOUR FUCKING FACE

I also like the name. It's ace breaking people's faces is also a good band gimmick. Like the Snescore gimmick, but better.
although... I am not pleased, because I just stuck the After The Hurricane logo on my guitar, to be scene - and now I am not scene. Oh well. A piece of history on my guitar

Haha... yeah the new names mint. Apart from all the other bands with similar names, after this before that, whatever... we wanted something a bit more "timeless" ;D and McCaig could never say hi we're after the Hurricane in a serious voice so it just seems like a big joke from the start. The breaking faces bit was just something i said when trying to explain the difference between the new names and how they announce themselves... sorta thing Yeah, 25 mins will be about right and yeah Mac'll let you blag his amp.

I don't think it's a dig at the name, or the band, but the reaction to what is in all honestly a fairly mediocre name did seem a touch sycophantic.
And you know ignorant people are going to call you "The Strikes" don't you? And that sounds awfully similar to "The Strokes".
I will however ram my cock firmly up your arse if the price is right.

Cheers for your input. Strikes is an infinitely better name than After The Hurricane was. I don't think anyone would confuse us with The Strokes. Does anyone give a fu<k about The Strokes anymore anyway? The name is Strikes not "The Strikes". This point has been made clear. Anyone who confuses the issue is a bit thick really. I think the over-zealous backpatting over the new name is because people are probably glad we replaced such a w@nk name?!? I'll pop you an EP in the post, the track listing is: "Last Night" "Sheffield City Cops" "Had To Explain" "The Co<ks rammed firmly up our arses for payment"! And it's nothing like The Strokes

im just messing about, it's an internet forum so people cant beat me up for being a dick. the name is good, i liked the old one too but then if there's loads of similar bandnames in sheffield it's probably not so good.

i was expecting this sort of backlash, I merely pointed out that some people will add 'The' to the start and make the name comparison, regardless of how different you sound/look.
If I ever call you The Strikes it will be purely out of base humour and nothing more. The music is the important thing, and your hair cuts.

I'm sure we'll get by. After the Hurricane was a totally w@nk name and I'm glad we've changed it. Strikes is growing on me. Like herpes.

You don't need to defend being a co<k on an internet forum it's fully expected and gratefully recieved!!! At least people are using the section again, eh?!?! Yeah cheers for changing the title and description stuff. Lots-of-different-meanings-core is awesome. ATH was okay, got a better reaction than expected. Stevetwm told me he loved it at Thursday last night, but it was just too ridiculous playing with all these other bands. We just wanted one word with lots of different meaning. Cheers.

You bring the heckles and i'll bring a vintage brass buttoned military jacket. At least you'll be at our gig!!! Who are you anyway, what band you in... i'm afraid i'm not local and you wouldn't know my parents!

t stands for tom, i was bored of being called "The Tom". I am probably the only non-ponte person on here, I know Craig and rob from KIC. My band is Dragonflies Draw Flame. This can be imaginatively changed to: The Dragonflies Dragonflies Dee Dee Eff The 'flame 'flame or similar don't listen to our mp3's cause we have new ones that rock slightly harder and I will upload them on saturday. I'll come and see your band if I'm anywhere near sheffield when you play.
